Paraprofessional Information

ECSD is seeking paraprofessionals/paraeducators for the 2023–2024 school year!

What is a Paraprofessional/Paraeducator?

A paraprofessional is a classroom aide who has met the requirements as set forth by the Every Student Succeeds Act. To qualify, a paraprofessional must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, plus one of the following:

  • Associate's degree

  • 48 verified college credits

  • Pass the Praxis paraprofessional test with a score of 460 or higher

A paraprofessional must supply copies of their transcripts to prove completion of an associate's degree or 48 credits earned from an accredited college/university or a copy of a passing score on the Praxis paraprofessional test.

Paraprofessionals are also required to maintain CPR/first aid certification for the duration of their employment.

What is the Paraprofessional Test and How Do I Schedule It?

The paraprofessional test is a computer-generated test created by Praxis and administered at the Elko County School District by appointment. The test consists of 90 multiple-choice questions across the subject areas of reading, mathematics, and writing. Approximately two-thirds of the questions in each subject area focus on the application of those skills and knowledge in a classroom context. Fifteen of the questions in the test (five in each subject) are pretest questions and do not count toward the candidate's score. The test questions are arranged by subject area with reading first, then mathematics, and then writing. The test takes approximately two and a half to three hours

You may schedule the paraprofessional test at the Elko County School District Office by contacting Human Resources at (775) 738-5196. Please call for an appointment and current cost of test. You may also visit Praxis online for information regarding taking the test on your own.
